the nocturnal visitor II

Last night, happiness came visiting again

Afraid of rejection

He silently stole into my room

He sang not serenades

Not did he woo me with the Shakespearian Sonnets

His feathery touch took my soul on the path of healing

As he wiped away the tears that I cried in my sleep

And when I turned to look at him

He took a step backward

Daring me to follow him

Through the window from which he stole in

Happiness came with too much light

His radiance blinded me

But his words,

As soothing as lover’s croon guided me

His whispers taught me the dancing steps

Steps I had long forgotten as I danced with darkness

Happiness had drummers lined up

Beating the heavenly beats of Bร tรก*

His eyes taught my hips to swish

Once again to the beats of joy

So I danced with all that was left in me

Knowing well enough that tomorrow’s nocturnal visitor could be the engulfing darkness
