And The Cure is Prevention

It seems that someone is always talking about the latest exercise routine or health diet…eat like a caveman…eat like a king…eat like a beggar…eat like a rabbit (no offence meant to vegetarians).

In terms of treatment, medicine is moving towards functional medicine which treats the root cause of a condition and not just the symptoms; so no more paracetamol or aspirin for a headache we want to know if the headache is caused by stress, a tutor, lack of sleep etc. and modify your behaviour or address the specific problem.

However, the future of medicine is in prevention not cure.

Now, the human body is a fascinating creation that takes all the complexities of physics and chemistry and creates the most advanced form of life known to man (although I would argue that if dolphins were the highest level of advancement, the planet would not be in jeopardy so you tell me)

But back to my point, there are a myriad of organs and systems that regulate the metabolic functions of the body; but all of this is co-ordinated by the brain.

AHH the brain…a conundrum within an enigma wrapped in a mystery with a sprinkling of unfathomable.

The human brain, in my view, is the most fascinating thing in existence. It is a super computer that can feel; it has a sciencey part, an emotional part, a logical and decision making part, an instinctive and intuition part, an impulsive and reactionary part and it is also in charge of every other part.

So basically anything you do that keeps the brain happy, keeps the whole body happy…because everything is determined by the oga at the top.

Therefore, we need to do more to ensure the health of our most important organ…and yes it starts with what you eat (because you are made up from the food you consume), and the exercise you get (because it speaks to blood flow to the brain- highest point so pumping up against gravity) and the hours you sleep (because you repair, recharge and expel toxins from the brain during sleep) and finally how you handle stress (because the brain has a psychological component to it that is more than neurotransmitters and electrical impulses)

In conclusion, just as people have different strengths in their arm, the conditions of our brain are on a spectrum with mentally ill people just one end of the spectrum (and geniuses of all types another end of the spectrum- only that the spectrum is a point or circle as there is a genetic link between genius and mental illness) and we all have to do our metaphorical bicep curls and protein shakes to improve our brains and by extension are whole body and life.
